Race Day

January 13, 2007
was the P.F. Changs 1/2 marathon.
We trained hard for 4 months, it was a lot of hard work but worth it.
This is the "Sis-tah" gang. We trained together through thick & thin
L to R Sharlah Reynolds, Callee Powell, Kim Wilson, Claire Romero, Melanie Real
(not pictured: Flora Schulte)

My time last year was 2 hours, 35 minutes
2 hours, 16 min. this year. :) I was very proud of this time!
It was SO hard the first 5 miles trying to keep up with Callee (little speedy gonzalez) but that helped get a good time. Callee finished in 2 hours flat! The rest of us trickled in one at a time.
We would've loved to run the whole thing together as a team but we are all at different levels and were having different struggles on race day.

It was Maya's birthday so I ran in honor of her AND

All 5 of us wore these shirts
In honor of Sonny, my nephew.

Ironically, Sonny is doing his LAST round of chemo this weekand the cancer is gone! YEA!! It was a priviledge to run in your honor and I'm so glad you are better.

We were also thinking of you Pip and wishing you were with us. Good luck in your race this Sat.
Running a marathon is like having a baby. The first few hours and days after the event you say "I will NEVER do that again, it was the hardest thing I've ever done!" But then the weeks and months pass and you forget the pain and just remember the good things and start saying "Maybe I'll do that again".
I hope this inspires anyone who wants to do a race, a 5k, 10k, 1/2 marathon or marathon. If I can do it, you can do it. That means you Rachel (my sis!) And you other girls out there that are considering it, you know who you are.
Go for it!

WOW! Congrats! I think they would have to scrape me off the pavement long before the finish line. Ryan ran a marathon in St. George a year ago. Happy late birthday Maya! Kadence was excited to see that they were still in the same primary class.

You guys did so awesome! I thought of you the whole time you were running and will be thinking of you for my own 13.1 (Dang, I feel like I ran it already!) And to think it all started with jogging a block!! Thanks for your commitment and friendship.

Congrats to all you girls!! That is a huge difference in time Claire!! Way to go and I loved the shirts ,that is really touching to me. It makes me so jealous, I want to run so bad but I don't want to be hurt anymore and I want to get pregnant this year. Teaching 6 classes a week is good enough for me right now. Like all those excuses? But don't you worry if I'll totally do it again. I feel like it is a major accomplishment. YOU ARE AWESOME GIRL!!!!!

This is quite an accomplishment, and I love those shirts. You are such a wonderful mother, aunt, sister, friend and "Daughter of God". We love you for what you have made of your life. And for the example you are to others!!
Love you,
